The 6-foot-4 sophomore point guard transferred from Southern Mississippi to Penn State on Friday. The North Philadelphia native was released from his Golden Eagles scholarship four days earlier. He signed his scholarship papers to play for the Nittany Lions on Friday while visiting the State College campus.

“I chose Penn State because of family atmosphere, academics and the Big Ten Conference, man. A lot of exposure,” Newbill said.

According to NCAA rules, he will have to sit out next season before having three seasons of eligibility. However, the Strawberry Mansion High product will be allowed to practice with Penn State next season.

Newbill averaged 9 points, 6 rebounds and 1.6 assists en route to being named to the Conference USA all-freshman team.

A mi me gusta mas Joseph que Leonard, o el proyecto de Joseph que el de Leonard, Joseph lo que tiene es que no es un PG con creatividad, puede llegar a ser sobrio y seguro en ataque, pero sin adalides, es un jugador que destaca por la combinacion de tiro, velocidad, y defensa, y porque es versatil, grande, puede jugar de 1-2, en realidad es el jugador del draft mas parecido a George Hill asi que no deberia tener problemas para adaptarse a un rol similar, y es un tio con mas potencial, tambien mas verde y que le costara adaptarse claro.

Leonard es un poco un alero en el molde de Gerald Wallace, pero por ahora mucho menos agresivo, su tiro mas alla de 4-5 metros es muy irregular, pierde muchisimo en cuanto se pone a hacer cosas que no le tocan, su fuerte es el rebote y el pescar en rio revuelto, balones sueltos, intangibles y demas, le falta consistencia y a veces ni le ves, pero tiene un molde fisico tremendo, ha mejorado mucho en un año y aun es un jugador joven, deberia acabar dando el nivel de un teorico titular NBA digno, aun asi veremos.

Miami booster Nevin Shapiro alleges he engaged in an NCAA violation in the recruiting of basketball player DeQuan Jones. Shapiro’s allegation:

• The booster alleges that in the early summer of 2008, he was made aware by assistant coach Jake Morton that a member of Jones’ family required $10,000 to ensure the player’s commitment. Shapiro said Morton met the booster at his Miami Beach mansion to pick up the money, where the transaction was witnessed by current Miami football staffer Sean Allen. According to Shapiro, it was Allen who went to Shapiro’s safe and removed the $10,000 in cash, which was then given to Morton by Shapiro. Shapiro said he and Morton then played one game of pool, and the coach left. Shapiro also said he believes Jones had no knowledge of the cash transaction.

• Shapiro said head coach Frank Haith acknowledged the transaction and expressed his gratitude when the two met briefly at David’s Café later in the summer of 2008.

• Shapiro alleges the $10,000 was later returned by Morton in June of 2010, after the booster had been incarcerated and left angry messages for both Morton and head coach Frank Haith about refusing to take his calls. Shapiro said that during those messages, he remarked about having paid $10,000 to secure Jones’ commitment for the basketball team. The booster alleges that shortly after he left those messages, Morton reached out to his bodyguard and expressed a desire to return the $10,000. Shapiro said the money was then returned by Morton, who allegedly insisted on turning the cash over to the booster’s bodyguard at a gas station near the home of Shapiro’s mother, rather than handing it to her directly. Shapiro said his bodyguard then delivered the cash to his mother.

• “I gave [the basketball coaches] $10,000 for a player named DeQuan Jones. DeQuan Jones committed to Miami from Georgia. A school in Georgia. I’m not sure where. I never had a dealing directly with the kid. The money was given to Jake Morton at my house. … By the way, the $10,000 they did return to me after I was incarcerated when I became pissed off [at] the fact that they were ignoring my calls.”

• “They did return the $10,000. They followed one of my security guards up to my mother’s house [and] gave the money to my mother directly.”

It’s official. Craig Williams is no longer a Temple Owl.

The 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward transferred to Texas Christian University on Wednesday.

Williams graduated from Temple in May with a degree in psychology. The U.S. Virgin Islands native, however, is eligible to play this season after redshirting last season at Temple.

Williams decided to redshirt after missing the entire season due to foot injuries. He broke the fifth metatarsal of his left foot on Nov. 14. Williams had just been cleared for limited practice after recovering from the same injury in his right foot.

He averaged 3.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 11.9 minutes in the 2009-10 season with the Owls.

The University of Central Florida is expected to receive an official notice of inquiry from the NCAA regarding potential recruiting violations in the school's football and men's basketball program, sources have told ESPN.com.

In addition, NCAA investigators have already begun interviewing people connected to potential violations. Sources also said that they expect the investigation will lead to the NCAA bringing formal charges against the Conference USA member.

Allegations are believed to center on Ken Caldwell, a 42-year-old Chicago native and former AAU basketball coach who has been tied to Central Florida's recruitment of several basketball players and at least one football player.

Caldwell's son, Rodney, attended Central Florida through last spring, and among the alleged violations is that recruits stayed at his apartment during visits to the Orlando school.

Caldwell could not be reached for comment, though in the past he's adamantly denied he has broken any NCAA rules. His son declined comment.

Neither of the Caldwells has yet to agree to be interviewed by investigators.

However, sources told ESPN.com that Brandon Bender, who is reported to have assisted Caldwell in recruiting players to UCF, was interviewed last week by NCAA investigators as well as legal counsel retained by the university. Bender played basketball as a freshman at Louisville in 2002 and, like Caldwell, is suspected of working on the fringes with players, college programs and agents.

"I haven't done anything wrong," Bender told ESPN.com in April.

NCAA spokesperson Stacey Osburn declined Wednesday to comment specifically on UCF, though she noted that it's not uncommon for enforcement staff to conduct interviews in advance of a university receiving notice of an official investigation.

At least three NCAA enforcement reps so far have been actively involved in the case.

Central Florida's director of athletic compliance, Courtney Vinson, also declined comment Wednesday, saying, "At this point, compliance is not making any official statements."

Since potential violations were first reported last spring, UCF has retained the Overland Park, Kan., law firm of Bond Schoeneck & King to assist in its dealings with the NCAA. The firm previously was hired by the university in 2008 to review its football training policies following the death of a player and the hospitalization of another.

This situation, though, deals with potential recruiting violations and Caldwell's alleged role in UCF's courting and eventual signing of several greater Chicago-area basketball players. He also reportedly arranged a joint phone conversation between UCF basketball coach Donnie Jones and Conyers, Ga., 6-4 guard Kevin Ware, who pledged to Central Florida in mid-April, only to de-commit 10 days later after allegations surfaced that Caldwell played a role in recruiting him.

Caldwell and Bender also are suspected of having ties to UCF football signee Demarcus Smith, a highly touted four-star quarterback from Louisville who previously had committed to the hometown Cardinals.

Smith asked for his release from UCF in March so he could attend Louisville, but football coach George O'Leary denied the request.

Smith is not on campus and has academic issues that might prevent him from being eligible this fall.

If Central Florida coaches knew Caldwell and Bender were promoting the athletic program, then under NCAA guidelines they become representatives of the school, which bears responsibility for their actions.

"Nobody's done anything wrong," Caldwell told ESPN.com when the allegations first surfaced in the spring. "UCF is just that I like ... I'm a big UCF guy. I tell people about UCF everywhere I go, just like I tell people about other schools."

Te copio lo que dejé en el post del Granada, aunque espero que alguien que lo haya visto más, pueda profundizar. Porque yo no puedo hacerlo.

Es una especie de point-forward, capaz de hacer casi de todo sobre la cancha. De hecho pasa por el "1"-"2"-"3" en su periplo NCAA, aunque su posición natural es la de SF. Pone el balón en el suelo, sabe pasar, corre excelente la pista, puede jugar por encima del aro...

No lo he visto demasiado, pero me ha dejado sensación de conseguir más partidos donde aparece, porque tiene "algo".

Me encantaría profundizar en su análisis, pero no tengo más bagaje para hacerlo. Mucha curiosidad, y en positivo, me despierta[/i].

Por cierto, su porcentaje en triples es un 32%.
