Lo esperado. 100 personas, y siendo generosos.

An impeccable source reveals David Geffen is hot to buy 51 percent of the Clippers. Friday night, the billionaire co-founder of the zaftig film-making company, had dinner in Los Angeles with Donald Sterling to discuss just that.

Anybody who knows Sterling can't imagine him selling controlling interest of anything he owns, much less turn over the decision-making of his showcase property.

"He'll take the Clippers to the grave with him," is the considered opinion of one and all. "They're his entree to Hollywood's galaxy of stars. You have no idea how Donald gets off swaying on the sidelines with demi-celebrities 41 nights a year."

For the sake of argument, surely Sterling must understand, by giving way to Geffen, his constellation, which often IS dying in the corner of the sky, would greatly illuminate and increase in value -- should the record-company big shot be able to recruit LeBron like he signed Bob Dylan and the Eagles.
In fact, Geffen has been deep in the hunt for quite some time. My source claims he told Sterling he can deliver LeBron as long as he's calling the shots.

Maverick Carter, who sits at the right hand of James in all business ventures, was next to the Lakers' bench alongside Geffen.

Meanwhile, Saturday night, Stern and Sterling had dinner. The first topic of conversation had to concern the owner's payment stoppage to Mike Dunleavy after he was fired as GM long after being let go as coach.

To date, the Clippers have not furnished grounds for such action nor has an arbitration date been set. At least one high-profile member of the coach's association, which filed a potent grievance with Stern, is encouraging a boycott of the franchise.

Sources disclosed Stern is angry Sterling again has embarrassed the league. Apparently, he's been promised the situation soon will be resolved, and that Dunleavy will get his money (nearly $6M) over the length of his contract that has one year remaining.

I don't know this for a fact, but my source suggested Stern's meeting "more likely centered on whether Sterling would be willing to sell 49 percent of the team and how much it'd take for him to give up control."
No immediate comment from either LeBron or Larry King on any of this.

I'm really just curious. So, this should be fun.

The rumors about Geffen purchasing majority ownership of our beloved losers revolves around Geffen's supposed abilty to attract LeBron James to the ball club. For most of ClipperLand, the fruition of the scenario is a pipe dream because, if the club managed to remove the most hated owner in sports while acquiring the most impactful free agent in sports, the so-called curse would be shattered.

Minus Donald Sterling.

Plus Lebron James.

Plus David Geffen (I'm sure many fans appreciate Geffen's reputation. And he just seems like a cool dude; it's hard to imagine the Blake Griffin's of the world as uncomfortable with Geffen as they would be when they're with Sterling, forced to wine and dine and all that hubub).

The franchise would be forever changed, right? All of us fans could cheer a supremely talented ball club without the lingering stigma that comes with Sterling.

But, what if you had to choose? What if the supreme diety in your life, whatever omnipotent character/force you believe in walked up to you today (athiests and agnostics, imagine the most powerful man on Earth approached you... say, Glenn Beck... sorry, had to do it) and said, "[Your name here], devout Clippers fan, I'm here to offer you a choice: When free agency begins next month, LeBron James will sign with the Clippers, where he will finish his succesful career alongside owner Donald Sterling."

"Or, my child, tomorrow when you wake up, you will hear the news that Donald Sterling has sold the Los Angeles Clippers to David Geffen, who will operate the franchise very successfully. He will be known as one of the best owners in sports. However, I must tell you that he will fail at luring Lebron James to the Clippers this year, and Carmelo Anthony next year."

"It's your choice."

It's up to you to define "successful." But who would you rather have as a member of the Clippers organization, and you can't have both. LeBron James? David Geffen?

Monday marks one month since Atlanta let Mike Woodson go. The Hawks should have a new coach by then.

A team official told FanHouse on Thursday the Hawks could name their new coach as soon as Friday and at least expect to have him in place by Monday, the day Atlanta starts draft workouts. In an interview Thursday with FanHouse, Mark Jackson, one of three candidates for the position, said he's heard the same information.

The other candidates are Dallas assistant Dwane Casey and Hawks assistant Larry Drew.

"I just sit back and do this and then just wait,'' said Jackson, a former NBA guard and now an ABC television analyst, said before broadcasting Thursday night's Game 4 of the Finals between the Lakers and Boston. "It works out either way for me. ... I'm God-fearing, and no matter what I win.''

Jackson said he hasn't heard any clues who might get the job. Casey and Drew did not return messages, and Atlanta general manager Rick Sund was unavailable.

The Hawks have been seeking a coach since Woodson was let go May 14 after six seasons. Four men got multiple interviews, with Avery Johnson already having agreed to coach New Jersey.

If Jackson doesn't get the Hawks job, he's expected to emerge as a top candidate for the Los Angeles Clippers position. Casey also is expected to be looked at by the Clippers if not hired by Atlanta.

"It's a great job,'' Jackson said of the Clippers' position. "So we'll see how it plays out.''

Jackson said he wasn't concerned about mentioning the Clippers while still a candidate in Atlanta.

"It's not like I'm the only guy (the Hawks are) looking at,'' Jackson said. "It's a great job. I'll say that today.''

A source close to the situation believes the Clippers might wait until after July 1 to hire a coach, believing that could aide their chances of landing Cleveland star LeBron James, expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent that day.

Jackson, 45, played in the NBA from 1987-2004, including 1992-94 with the Clippers. He was Rookie of the Year and appeared in the 1989 All-Star Game.

Some of those pushing for Jackson to be named Hawks coach have referenced a 2008 study by Cornell University's Industrial and Labor Relations School and England's University of Warwick. Using data from 15,000 games between 1996-2004, scholars determined NBA teams tend to win more games if led by coaches who were star players or who had long playing careers.

"I agree with it 100 percent,'' Jackson said of the study. "Not just (the NBA. The study) says business in general. I think it makes a lot of sense in this league. I would think it makes a lot of sense.''

With Casey never having played in the NBA and Drew having logged 10 years between 1980 and 1991 without an All-Star appearance, soon it will be known if the Hawks believe Jackson's cause was aided by that study's findings.

Yo, personalmente, no le he visto gran cosa:

The chances of Al-Farouq Aminu slipping to pick eight may be slim, but stranger things have certainly happened. Here we take a look at the video to see what Aminu can bring to the Clippers.

Transition Play:

Aminu’s ability to get out and run on the break is breathtaking to watch. He’s listed at 6′8, but he’s all arms and legs and as a runner he takes gigantic strides up the court. Often times Aminu would collect the defensive rebound, outlet the ball, and beat his wings up the court as the trail man on the break. Throughout the year he showed fantastic chemistry with his point guard Ishmael Smith, one of the best distributors on the break in all of college basketball. With Smith commanding the middle of the floor, Aminu would do a great job creating angles for his point guard and also presenting him with multiple alley-oop opportunities. On the times Aminu brought the ball up court himself or received it early on the perimeter, he was scarily reminiscent of a young Lamar Odom. Aminu’s go to move on the break is to head right at the defender (almost like a running back heading right at a safety) and at the last second shift all his weight to avoid any contact before finishing with a pretty fingerroll at the rim. So much of being a good athlete is about body control, and Aminu passes with flying colors there, even at full speed.

Scoring:

Unfortunately, all Aminu really brings to the table offensively is putbacks and transition chances. There wasn’t one available clip of Aminu making a pullup jumper off the dribble, and his post game is completely reliant on being faster than his opponent. Outside of being able to finish with either hand and use the backboard well around the rim, there’s no real “skill” to Aminu’s game. Yes, some of the moves he makes are aesthetically pleasing, but his jumper is basically non-existent at this point and a long ways from being even passable in the league. Aminu shot 27.3 percent from three this year on 2.1 attempts per contest, with most those shots being wide open looks. More often than not, opposing defenses wisely begged Aminu to shoot from the perimeter, and far too often he obliged.

Rebounding:

If Aminu is so limited offensively, why did he score 15.8 points a game this year? Look no further than the outrageous 4.3 offensive rebounds per game he put up, which was good for the fourth highest total in the nation. Aminu was far superior to the athletes in the ACC this year, but even against NBA caliber bigs like Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors and Gani Lawal, he’d find ways to get rebounds. Aminu has a ridiculous 7-foot-3 wingspan that helps him get to a lot of balls he has absolutely no business getting to. He’s not a banger, but he doesn’t need to be.

Post Defense:

Because of that wingspan, Aminu can hack it as a post defender in the league. One of the best things about Aminu is that he disrupts entry passes and uses his lateral quickness to jump from side to side of the post player. If the pass does get through, he does a really great job of getting those long arms straight up in the air. Unlike many big time athletes, Aminu doesn’t try and swat every thing out of the gym. He’s content with providing a little bump with the chest, and then getting those arms in the way of shot attempts. That will go a long way in staying out of foul trouble as a rookie.

On the perimeter:

Aminu’s combination of foot speed, lateral quickness, hand speed, and length could make him a tremendously versatile defender on the next level. At Wake Forest, Aminu looked a little like Josh Smith does in Atlanta, being able to switch on every cut, every screen, and still hold the advantage over his competitors. Aminu probably shouldn’t spend a ton of time on centers or point guards, but two through four? No problem. Aminu has an incredible motor defensively that often has him running around the court, hounding ball carriers, looking for strips, flying over for weak side blocks, and generally covering a ridiculous amount of space on the court. His one weakness is that he allows a little too much room for opposing players to get their jumpers off in isolation, but in a defensive system he trusts you could expect him to play tigher on the wing.

Pick and Roll Defense:

By far the most impressive aspect of Aminu’s game is his pick and roll defense. There is literally no strategy he can’t excel in. Want to switch every on ball screen? No problem, Aminu is a good enough athlete to stay in front of people. Want to get out and hedge? Aminu is so fast laterally that he can push point guards to either sideline and sometimes as far back as half court. Want to trap the screen, like the Dunleavy Era Clippers liked to do? That hand speed and harrassing length can cause all kinds of problems in passing lanes. With Griffin, Aminu, and Kaman (who is surprisingly good at getting out on pick and rolls), the Clips could become a top-tier defensive team simply by taking away the bread and butter of most NBA offenses.

Best Case Scenario: Josh Smith

Josh Smith is one of the rare players in the NBA who can succeed without any sort of offensive game to speak of. For many years Smith didn’t realize his limitations and shot and missed a ton of jumpers, looking like he would never figure it out. Last year Smith stopped shooting and just hung around the rim, and it was kind of a revelation. Aminu has shown that he likes to spot up, even though he’s a horrid shooter and was a cut-above athletically in college. Like we tend to preach here on Clipperblog, knowing your limitations as a player is half the battle. Smith has already sort of blazed the path for a guy like Aminu. Hit the offensive boards, fly out in transition, dunk everything in sight. If Aminu follows that path, the sky’s the limit.

Worst Case Scenario: Tyrus Thomas

For every success story of a relatively unskilled athlete making it (Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace) , there are a million guys who don’t. Athletic forwards without offensive games and a true position just don’t have a lot of success very often if they’re not elite in other areas of the game. Can Aminu be an elite defender? Certainly, but he won’t be if that’s not his primary focus.

Aminu shows hints of being a Josh Smith or a Gerald Wallace type tweener, but he’s not nearly the athlete those two players are. Like most of the players in this draft, Aminu doesn’t project out to be a star. He can’t create his own shot and he can’t shoot, and in the NBA, that’s a problem.

That said, it’s rare to see a player with those physical tools give the amount of effort Aminu already does on the defensive end. For a team that values that end of the court and likes to get out a run a bit, Aminu is a perfect guy to plug in at either forward spot. Are the Clippers that team? We don’t know yet, and that’s one of the most unsettling parts about evaluating prospects in this year’s draft.

1) Clippers VS Grizzlies: 98-88 W 11/29/09

This was the 3rd time the Clippers played the Grizzlies in the month of November, but was the most memorable of the three. Gordon was coming back to the starting lineup from an injury and the Clippers were coming from a road trip featuring a 73-86 loss in Indiana (where hometown hero Eric Gordon came off the bench with a team low -22 +/- along with 6 points and 3 turnovers). The Clippers needed a good win to rejuvenate their season, but things were not looking so good when the Clippers went down by 20 points in the third. LAC wouldn't give up hope so easily.

The Clippers then went on a memorable run powered by Eric Gordon to win the game by 10! Eric Gordon had 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. This was one of the big games from Gordon this year.

A holiday weekend game... the Sunday after Thanksgiving, I was in Cabo San Lucas with the family. When I left on the trip, I assumed my laptop and NBA League Pass subscription would cover me, but no such luck as it doesn't work outside of the US. So I sat there watching the play-by-play feed on espn.com. Sometime in the fourth quarter as the Grizzlies lead was growing, I became disgusted and went back to my family. When I checked the final score later, I was surprised to see that the Clippers had cut the final deficit to 10. It took me a while to realize that they had actually won!

2) Clippers VS Celtics: 92-90 W 12/27/09

Up until this game, the Celtics were showcasing their status as a champion contender. They had a 23-5 record and were on a 3 game winning streak, winning their last 14 of 15 games. The Celtics were not in a slump yet, but the Clippers were still looking to relive their upset over the Celtics just a year ago. With notable contributions from Baron Davis, Chris Kaman, Deandre Jordan (Camby was inactive) and Rasual Butler the Clippers would have their wish.

Davis was successful in empowering a Clippers win with his efficient 7-11 shooting along with making all 9 of his free throw attempts. His ability to penetrate the Celtics mythological defense electrified his team through 13 direct assist and a team total of 25 assists. One of the most memorable clips from this game would involve Davis flying into the paint, drawing help defense, and finally giving an assist for an emphatic Rasual Butler three (the Clippers' new franchise leader in 3 pointers made).

The Clippers big men also made some nice contributions. Deandre Jordan has 6 points to go with 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots giving the Clippers some needed rebounding in a game where Glen Davis had 5 offensive rebounds. Chris Kaman had a very impressive game with another almost-30-point-scoring game. Kaman totaled 27 points and 12 rebounds (!) while battling Perkins, Wallace, and KG. When you think about how effective at times the Celtics have been in their paint defense, you begin to really appreciate Kaman's effort here along with Davis's great playmaking this game.

Oh yeah, Baron also hit his patented turn-around-fade-away jumper to win the game for the Clippers. He helped keep 2 traditions from a year ago: making an individual player pay for missing free throws (Rondo) and making a heavily commercialized buzzer beater like Novak a year ago. This was a special win for the Clippers fans and one of the better memories of the season.

First Thanksgiving, now Christmas! Two days after Christmas, I was in Tahoe with the family. No broadband access at the In-Law's cabin, so no Clippers for Steve. I couldn't even monitor the score. The ClipperWidow appreciates it when she gets these little in-season breaks from the madness - and I guess I should go away more often if the team is going to have improbable wins when I do. I watched this game on the DVR when I got back. As for Kaman, I have this to say - the Celtics pride themselves on playing man-to-man and not having to double team people. Kendrick Perkins basically shut Dwight Howard down in the playoffs one on one, which took Orlando completely out of their game. Obviously it was regular season, less at stake, no Paul Pierce, etc. But Chris Kaman FEASTED on Perkins in single coverage that game - destroyed him. Unfortunately, no other team in the league is stubborn enough to single cover Kaman - he's too good against the single, and there's little reason not to double him considering his performance against it and given the rest of the roster. But you can make an argument that Kaman is the best center versus man single coverage in the NBA. Think about it.

The long-suffering loyalists who willingly call Clipperland home were getting understandably frustrated by the slow (non-existent?) pace of the Clippers' coaching search … until something happened this week that turned frustration into full-blown exasperation and outright fury.

It emerged Tuesday, through Peter Vecsey's original report in the New York Post, that billionaire entertainment mogul David Geffen wants to buy 51 percent of the Clippers from Donald Sterling … with Geffen also reportedly promising that LeBron James will sign with the Clips in free agency if Sterling sells.

In other words? Forget the bench.

The mere fact that Geffen is interested -- whether or not LeBron could really be roped in -- would have been enough to whip Clippers diehards into a frenzy. They've longed for Sterling's exit for years, not unlike certain higher-ups in the league office who secretly harbor the same dream, but never imagined someone with Geffen's connections and reputation would make a bid.

The problem, of course, is that Sterling won't budge from his decades-long vow to never sell anything, let alone the NBA franchise that ranks as the only asset in his portfolio that keeps him relevant. It doesn't bother Sterling at all that his customers are openly begging him to surrender a 51 percent stake to Geffen. Or that his relevance around town, if you're willing to buy his premise, is Sterling's well-earned reputation as the league's most bumbling owner.

Sterling would indeed rather keep the Clippers and operate them as he always has rather than sell a controlling share. Sterling apparently won't even consider keeping up to 49 percent along with his courtside side, which would keep him involved and potentially re-brand him as a local hero … provided that the combination of a takeover by a major power-broker in the entertainment business, L.A.'s significant salary-cap space, proximity to all things Hollywood and the Clips' promising roster could actually tempt James away from Cleveland.

One source close to the situation told ESPN.com this week that one proposed scenario has Geffen trying to convince Sterling to sell at least 49 percent of the Clips, as long as Geffen also receives first right to buy majority control when Sterling's ownership reign finally does end. A similar arrangement just played itself out in Washington, where Ted Leonsis completed his purchase of the Wizards from the estate of the late Abe Pollin, which is the transition Pollin essentially arranged back in 1999 when he sold the NHL's Washington Capitals and 44 percent of the Wizards to Leonsis.

But there has been no indication yet that Sterling is willing to part with even a fraction of his franchise.

As team president Andy Roeser told the Los Angeles Times this week: "Mr. Sterling has never expressed a desire to sell any part of his team. Because it is an asset of remarkable value, it's true that there have been countless inquiries over the years. But the Clippers have never been for sale."

They will, though, eventually have a coach. We promise. But for now we refer you to our pre-Finals update from the coaching carousel, since little has changed in the past week with the Clips convinced they have no reason to rush.

Cleveland was the only other team in the league with openings as of Friday, but the Cavs were down to a final two: Tom Izzo and Byron Scott. L.A. has shown interest in Scott, but another of its potential targets -- Dallas Mavericks assistant Dwane Casey -- is still available after the Atlanta Hawks choose longtime assistant Larry Drew as Mike Woodson's successor.

If the Clippers want to talk with Mark Jackson about their coaching job, they know where to find him.

"I'm the girl on the dance floor just dancing to the music,'' Jackson said in an interview Saturday with FanHouse when asked about the Clippers' opening. "If somebody wants to dance with me, come on over.''

Jackson, a former NBA guard now serving as an ABC analyst during the Finals between Boston and the Lakers, was one of three finalists for the Atlanta job before it went Friday to Hawks assistant Larry Drew. Jackson and Dwane Casey, the other finalist not selected, are both expected to be candidates with the Clippers, apparently in no position to fill their opening.

"It's a great job,'' Jackson said. "It will play itself out.''

A source close to the situation has told FanHouse the Clippers might wait until after July 1 to hire a coach to perhaps help their chances of landing Cleveland star LeBron James, expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent that day.

Asked about Drew getting the Atlanta job, Jackson said, "I wish him all the best.'' Jackson also spoke well of how Hawks general manager Rick Sund handled the search to replace Mike Woodson, let go May 14 after six seasons.

"Rick Sund did an outstanding job from top to bottom with the way he handled everything,'' said Jackson, an NBA point guard from 1987-2004 who never has been a coach at any level but was known for his leadership as a player. "A class organization. I've got nothing but great words. He's handled (the coaching search) the best that I've been a part of so far.''

Jackson did not express displeasure at not getting the job. He now fully will focus on broadcasting the remainder of the NBA Finals, with Game 5 Sunday at TD Garden.

"I'm a guy that totally has faith in God and believes my steps are ordered by him,'' Jackson said. "It's a win-win ... I'm a guy that will finish calling these games and take it whichever directions it goes. I'm a man of faith, and know it's going to be fine.''

Butler’s Gordon Hayward is getting serious looks from the Clippers, Jazz, Pacers and Bucks. But could he go even higher than No. 8? The Sacramento Kings (drafting at No. 5) have been pushing to get Hayward in and will have Hayward and Nevada’s Luke Babbitt in for a workout on June 23rd, the day before the draft. Could the Kings take Hayward ahead of the two guys we have highest on their board — DeMarcus Cousins and Greg Monore? Probably not. But the Kings have been talking to several teams about moving down in the draft. The Kings are looking for veterans and have been shopping Andres Nocioni and Francisco Garcia to see if they can get any takers. If they do move down a few notches, both players could be intriguing.”

Scott Howard-Cooper (NBA.com):

The man standing in the intersection of all that is happening around the Clippers is a rookie general manager. Actually, he's not even that yet. Neil Olshey is, technically, the acting GM of the Clippers, though the title is just a formality. It's his job. That will soon become official.

Action swirls all around him. The Clippers have the No. 8 pick in the upcoming Draft and a unique set of circumstances that make them an obvious target for trade possibilities. So the phone has started to ring. That spot could become the highest pick to be moved.

"I've had a few of those," Olshey said of approaches for No. 8. "It's very preliminary. Guys are checking in to see if the pick's in play at all."

It is.

In an offseason of several critical decisions, with a coaching hire and space for a max free-agent deal bearing down on the horizon, the Clippers are one of the intriguing teams of the Draft. They have a good pick. Not a great pick, but eight is territory for a serious prospect.

Yet they are also in win-now mode with Chris Kaman coming off an All-Star campaign, as well as Baron Davis at point guard and Eric Gordon heading into his third season at shooting guard.

While the Clippers won't say they're committed to trading out of the No. 8 spot -- that would be bad business for driving up the price, and there are, too, advantages to keeping the pick -- clearly this is not a team that wants to be patient while a rookie develops. They'll already have one first-year player making the transition, 2009 top choice Blake Griffin, who missed last season with a knee injury. No team wanting to, at the very least, get into playoff contention after a 29-53 season wants to rely on two rookies.

The Clippers don't consider Griffin a newcomer, though, and they're partly right. He was in summer league last year, and played very well. He lasted a portion of training camp and the preseason before his season-ending knee surgery. And he was constantly around the team, getting a sense of the travel grind and the daily routine.

Still, he hasn't played a game that counted. The new L.A. coach will be reminding everyone, once that first bad stretch of the season comes, that his starting power forward is a rookie and people need to be patient.

The compelling case to keep No. 8: The Clippers could get a highly regarded prospect at a budget-conscious price without relying heavily on him.

The Clippers have a war chest built up for summer spending, allowing them to add a necessary impact player even without trading the pick for a veteran. Making a move before the Draft will mean spending some of that cap space for free agency.

"The win now, that's going to have more to do with July 1st than June 24th," Olshey said.

The compelling case to trade No. 8: The known vs. the unknown -- acquiring a veteran takes the uncertainty out of what they're getting and fits better with the win-now attitude in team headquarters here.

The Clippers also have the Timberwolves' pick protected through the top 10 in June 2011 and unprotected in '12, and they're getting trade calls inquiring about that prize. So even if he trades this year's pick, there will be plenty of opportunities for the new GM to add youth.

"If you ask me right now, I'd say we're going to use the pick," Olshey said. "But from a deal-flow position, we've only recently been talking to [other teams]. It seems like it's just now heating up."

There is a lot to be done in the next couple months: picking in the lottery (maybe), making a major trade instead (possibly), choosing a coach (definitely) and signing free agents (for sure). They'll almost certainly make a play for LeBron James, but, short of that thunderous success, can still try to address small forward by pursuing restricted free-agent Rudy Gay. Among their own free agents, there will be interest in bringing back Steve Blake, Travis Outlaw, Craig Smith and Drew Gooden. Or maybe they'll all be gone -- or so the Clippers hope -- because needing to renounce everyone means they will be able to land a star.

For now, they have only five players under contract: Davis, Gordon, Griffin, Kaman and DeAndre Jordan. More specifically, they have those five players, a major decision about whether to make the pick or trade it, the coaching hire, free agency and a unique set of circumstances.

And a rookie general manager in the intersection of it all.

General Manager Neil Olshey addressed some questions on the Clippers moving the eighth pick in the draft:

“I’ve had a few of those,” Olshey said of approaches for the eighth pick. “It’s very preliminary. Guys are checking in to see if the pick’s in play at all.”

If Denver is indeed inquiring about moving up in the draft, pick eight wouldn’t be a bad place to start. If the Clippers could lock up a young, talented point guard for the future in exchange for pick eight, that’s something they have to consider.

Something else to consider in this equation, as always, is money. Whoever the Clippers select at pick eight will be slotted to make 2.13 million in their first year, while Ty Lawson will make only 1.43 million. It sounds like a small chunk of change, but since the max contract amount has not been definitively declared due to all the variables involved, that 700,000 dollars in cap room could end up making a difference.

The Clippers may not bite on anything before the draft, but it appears as if Neil Olshey is definitely listening.

I have to admit coming into the 09-10 season I was not too excited about the acquisition of Rhino. As the season progressed Smith slowly warmed my heart, and he became one of my favorite Clippers from last season. Alas, I believe Craig Smith is a one and done Clipper. Craig has a niche in this league, and can play for any team he wants to, and almost every team in the league would love to have him.

Most big men reserves in the NBA are strictly defenders and rebounders. WIth Baby Shrek Davis (or Glen, or Ronald Davis. I don't really know) showing how important it is to have a big off the bench that can score in the paint, Smith's value is rising.

Let's take a look at the 09-10 Western Conference playoff teams and how (if) Rhino would fit in with that team (I could essentially list almost every single team, but let's just talk about good ones). I am going by the rosters from last year, since I don't know how each team will look this upcoming season.

1. Lakers - would be a perfect fit here since Lamar Odom is mainly a perimeter player, and Mbenga is only good for UpperDeck and Topps photographers.

2. Dallas - Dampier and even Haywood aren't great inside scorers.

3. Phoenix - With Lopez as a starter, Smith would look good when Frye goes 0-9 from deep.

4. Denver - Birdman is a great reserve, but he is only a very poor man's Jerome WIlliams.

5. Utah - One of the few teams that does not necessarily need a backup scorer in the paint .

6. Portland - As much as I love Juwan Howard, Craig Smith would be the second best inside scorer on this team.

7. Spurs - Dejuan Blair is a great rebounder, but no where as good as Rhino is in scoring in the paint.

8. Thunder - If they had ANY inside scoring this team could have beaten the Lakers (or at the very least push it to 7)

So as you can see there are plenty of teams in the Western Conference alone that could use Craig Smith. Adding to the fact Smith will be very affordable, makes the outlook for Smith in a Clipper jersey next season even more bleak. Whatever the case, I will follow Rhino in whatever he chooses to do. Hopefully, he chooses to stay with the Clippers, but I wouldn't blame him for going somewhere else.

Yet former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell will have received scant consideration for any of them unless he gets an interview with the Los Angeles Clippers or unexpectedly materializes as a fallback candidate in Cleveland, where the Cavaliers are still waiting on a yea-or-nea response from Michigan State’s Tom Izzo.

I've had this inkling that the Clippers have been super quiet on the coaching front waiting for the Finals to end to make a run at Phil Jackson. I'm not basing this on anything rock solid, nor am I claiming it is. Just my gut feeling.

Watching Game 7, I had what Jules Winnfield would call a moment of clarity. What if the Clippers aren't waiting for P-Jax, but for Doc Rivers? He's a former Clipper and reportedly loves Los Angeles (but then who doesn't). All this talk of leaving to spend time with his family I don't really buy. On top of that. the Celtics have one more year, if that.

What do people think of making a run at him? I've never been a fan of his coaching ability, I'm more into it for the fact he's been to two Finals in three years. He has legitimacy, that's what I want.

There could be another member of the Big Three on the market, too. Pierce has a player option for $21.5 million next season. But with the collective bargaining agreement set to expire next summer and a new one expected to significantly reduce player salaries, several prominent players (including Dirk Nowitzki and Amar'e Stoudemire) are planning to opt out of lucrative contracts in order to sign new deals under the existing agreement. Pierce, 32, could leave the $21.5 million on the table with the expectation that he could score a contract worth $50 million to $60 million in the offseason.
