Sam Hinkie’s wheeling and dealing wasn’t finished after the first round.
With the No. 35 pick in the second round, the Sixers selected Glen Rice Jr., formerly of Georgia Tech, and immediately traded him to Washington for the No. 38 and No. 54 picks.
At No. 38, Washington took shooting guard Nate Wolters from South Dakota State. Last season, the 6-foot-5 Wolters averaged 22.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists with a 48.5 shooting percentage.
Wolters lasted slightly longer than Rice with the Sixers. Shortly after the pick, the Sixers flipped Wolters to Milwaukee for No. 43 overall pick, 6-foot-6 shooting guard Ricky Ledo.
Ledo was slated to play for Providence College, but never got the chance because he was forced to sit out by the NCAA as a partial qualifier. Ledo was able to practice with Providence and averaged 23.4 points per game at South Kent School in Connecticut.
Ledo didn’t stick on the Sixers’ ledger for too long, either. The guard was sent to Atlanta, which in turn dealt the teenager to Dallas. That’s where Ledo’s rights remained at midnight.
The Sixers officially made the No. 42 pick of the draft, selecting guard Pierre Jackson from Baylor. Jackson will go to New Orleans with Jrue Holiday as part of the trade for Nerlens Noel (see story).
Finally, the Sixers got Oregon’s Arsalan Kazemi at No. 54. Kazemi, the first Iranian in NCAA Division I history, is a 6-foot-7 forward with the proverbial high motor. He averaged 9.4 points and 10 rebounds per game.
“The guys we brought in tonight are winning basketball players who really care about the things we should care about,” Hinkie said.
