Mike Woodson and Mark Jackson, two of the candidates for the Knicks' head coaching vacancy, have continued to receive endorsements from third parties as New York continues to interview people for the job.
Former Knicks coach Larry Brown said he believes Woodson is the most qualified person for the job, while former Warriors assistant Brian Scalabrine said he believes Jackson, who criticized Scalabrine after his tenure as Golden State's head coach, would be able to motivate New York's locker room.
"He was excited about the conversation he had with Steve and Scott,'' Brown said about Woodson, who interviewed with the Knicks last Wednesday, according to the New York Post's Marc Berman. "He told me it went well. It's not rocket science. It's basketball. He had success [as a head coach] in New York and Atlanta and with me in Detroit and Philly, and he's sat next to Doc [Rivers] the last four years. Those are pretty good things in his favor."
Woodson went 109-79 in three seasons as the Knicks head coach but has spent the past four years as an assistant with the Clippers. He previously went 206-386 in six seasons leading the Atlanta Hawks.
"I've read a whole lot of qualified candidates, but I can't imagine anyone being more qualified than Mike," Brown said.
Jackson, who also interviewed with the Knicks last Wednesday, went 121-109 in three seasons as Golden State's head coach before the team replaced him with Steve Kerr.
After he coached his last game with the Warriors, he said his assistants, including Scalabrine, did not respect him and led to a "dysfunction" within the coaching staff, according to Sports Illustrated's Ben Golliver.
That notwithstanding, Scalabrine praised Jackson to the New York Daily News' Stefan Bondy, taking responsibility for the falling out in Golden State and saying he believes Jackson can help players like Kristaps Porzingis.
"For any of the former players that are up for the job, I just know that Mark understands this generation better than most," Scalabrine said. "He got the most out of his guys -- Steph Curry's development and Klay Thompson's development. The development of Draymond (Green). There's one thing I can't argue is that he gets his teams to play hard for him and he builds confidence in his guys. ... "If you got a guy like Porzingis and he's ready to take that next step, why wouldn't you want that? He has the ability to be the greatest player that ever played. And I'm sure Mark will use the media to get that message."
Significa "propenso" o "tendente a".
