According to multiple sources connected to the Knicks, Trier’s lack of popularity among his veteran teammates was something of a concern in the locker room.
“His play on the court was cancerous,” one NBA source said. “A lot of guys didn’t like the way he didn’t play team ball. He cared about himself too much. He looked guys off who were open.’’
While Trier got along swimmingly with fellow rookies Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson, some vets felt Trier’s one-on-one style didn’t help the team’s culture
During a Nov. 27 game in Detroit, Trier brought the ball up the court with Trey Burke all alone ahead. Trier didn’t throw it ahead for the easy layup. Instead, Trier barreled toward the basket.
While he drew a foul, players on the bench yelled at Trier, scolded him for not feeding Burke, who held his palms up, shaking his head after the whistle.
The more publicized incident occurred Jan. 23, when Tim Hardaway Jr. chewed out Trier on the court after Trier failed to pass to him on a two-on-one fast break with Hardaway open on the left.
Another NBA source familiar with the situation said when players would choose sides for pickup games before or after practice, he often was one of the last chosen. The Knicks players wanted to play with guys who passed to the open man.

In my interview w/ Fizdale on
@MSGNetworks
, I asked him if he looks forward to being hated again (like Heat). His reply: "I can't wait. I miss being hated..and once we get this thing right, everybody's gonna hate us, because it's New York. They already hate us anyway." #Knicks
Aterrizar en los Knicks para quitarse esa losa de "perilla cobarde"On the latest @TheCrossover podcast, @IanBegley says he is hearing what everyone else is hearing about Durant to the Knicks, and how it could appeal to Durant to disassociate himself from the narrative that he jumped on the bandwagon to win in Golden State
Hawks, Lakers y Suns sería el podio...4- New York Knicks
The New York Knicks roster won't look so attractive to Williamson on draft night. But no team has more flexibility to build for the future.
Ideally for Zion, he goes to the Knicks and they sign a pair of max free agents, with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving the presumed primary targets. In that dream scenario, Williamson plays to his strengths throughout his rookie contract, running the floor, crashing the glass and scoring around the basket.
Playing alongside another star or two, there would be less pressure on Williamson to develop his skills and generate his own offense.
Even if the Knicks can't add Durant and Irving, the idea of becoming New York's face would still be appealing from a brand-building standpoint.
He would also join a roster with cap space and young talent, including Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox, Allonzo Trier and Dennis Smith Jr. And there would be a clear path toward legendary status, given the praise Williamson would receive from guiding the Knicks back toward relevance.
We’re hopeful and we’re excited,’’ Mills said. “We’re excited because now we’re in position. There’s a lot of noise and a lot of guys are interested in New York. They like Fiz. They like some of the changes we made in the organization. We hear that from agents. We read it from guys getting interviewed about what guys feel about the Knicks. We hear that from other players. At least we’re in the game, and hopeful something really good happens. But we won’t know until it happens.
“It also gives us the opportunity that if things don’t happen in free agency, we’re sticking to our plan. We’re not going to sign the wrong players just because we have room and the fans have great expectations. They should have expectations we make the right decisions. It gives us the opportunities to eventually explore trades and take guys into [that] room.”
In fact, Perry didn’t discount the possibility of trading the Knicks’ pick even if it’s in the top three. It is not considered a deep draft but has gem Zion Williamson at the top. The Knicks’ pick could be in play for any Anthony Davis trade on draft night, as New Orleans staged talks with the Knicks before this season’s trade deadline.
“Once the draft process plays out, your phone rings a lot of times,’’ Perry said. “I can’t sit here and tell you exactly what would happen in that scenario.
“We’ll be able to find a player that can help us get better,’’ Perry added. “To what degree, we’ll see.’’
Mills and Perry did wave caution flags at the notion KD is a “done deal’’ — as some prognosticators have said.
“Our vision is eventually is to become a championship-caliber team,’’ Perry said. “All our planning has that in mind. We’re not going to look at this summer as the end-all or be-all, per say. We’re excited to be in the game. We’re not going to go off the rails if we don’t get what you’re talking about. We’ll be very comfortable with the draft and what we can add via trade to be a better basketball team.”
Privately, Mills has been steadfast about not signing big contracts to players who are not franchise difference-makers.
“The worst thing we can do is react to doing the wrong thing because we’re disappointed something didn’t happen exactly the way we want it to happen this summer,’’ Mills said. “That could be thing that could derail us from doing what we committed to our fans, what I committed to Jim [Dolan, owner] in how I would build this team.”
Palabra de "mr. Contratazos a Hardaway y Baker en 48hrs".“It also gives us the opportunity that if things don’t happen in free agency, we’re sticking to our plan. We’re not going to sign the wrong players just because we have room and the fans have great expectations. They should have expectations we make the right decisions. It gives us the opportunities to eventually explore trades and take guys into [that] room.”

Perhaps Mudiay’s long play?
Knicks can renounce his cap hold, sign him to a min deal, and still retain his Bird Rights for next summer
