If Grant Hill elects to re-sign with the Phoenix Suns, the Knicks will consider making an offer to free agent point guard Andre Miller, according to a team source.
With free agent dollars drying up and more teams exercising fiscal responsibility, Miller is one high-profile free agent who is falling through the cracks. Miller's loss could be a huge gain for the Knicks, who would significantly upgrade their point-guard position by adding a player who helped transform the Sixers from a lottery team to solid playoff team after he came over from Denver in the Allen Iverson trade.
The Knicks could conceivably offer Miller the same deal Jason Kidd rejected; $18million over three years. Another possibility is signing Miller to a one-year, mid-level deal worth $5.8 million. A one-year contract would give the Knicks salary-cap flexibility for the free agent class of 2010. Plus, Miller may be receptive to signing for one year and testing the free agent market next summer.
Miller has been linked to Portland, but the Trail Blazers are reportedly working on several different deals, including one for Chicago point guard Kirk Hinrich.
Miller, 33, averaged 16.3points, 6.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds last season for Philadelphia in 82games. He doesn't have the flare of Kidd but Miller provides toughness, leadership and is durable. He's appeared in at least 80 games in all 10 NBA seasons.
The one major concern the Knicks have is that Miller has shot 21% on three-pointers for his career. He is more comfortable and more effective scoring and passing in the low post.
A decision from Hill could come as early as today. The Arizona Republic reported late Thursday night that Suns owner Robert Sarver, GM Steve Kerr and coach Alvin Gentry all flew to Orlando to meet with Hill one final time.

Grant Hill(notes) has decided to re-sign with Phoenix, and a large part of the decision is based on the belief that Steve Nash(notes) is close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Hill has begun telling associates he’s staying with the Suns. Phoenix owner Robert Sarver, general manager Steve Kerr and coach Alvin Gentry met with Hill on Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Florida.
The Suns will also sign free agent Channing Frye(notes) to a two-year deal for $3.8 million, sources said. The second season is at Frye’s option.
The New York Knicks reportedly offered Hill the choice of a one-year, $5 million deal or a three-year, $10 million contract. Hill also had an offer from the Boston Celtics.Nevertheless, he’s believed to be comfortable with the direction of the Suns to re-sign there.
The terms of the Nash extension are unclear, although one source believes it is a three-year deal worth about $33 million.
The Knicks have ordered Eddy Curry to report to the Summer League in Las Vegas so that the team can monitor his progress.
Curry won't play for New York's summer league team, but will work out with the club on Sunday.
Trainer Jerry Powell says Curry, who began a strict diet and workout regimen in May, has lost almost 50 pounds.
"They want to see what he looks like," Powell told Alan Hahn Newsday. "They want to see him get up and down with the summer league team and practice."
Powell added that it's clear Curry's "confidence has been damaged."

PD: Lee a Utah, Tyrus Thomas a NY ???
