No entiendo muy bien ese interés de la NBA por acabar con la NCAA cuando a la NBA le ha ido francamente bien el modelo de ir cogiendo el talento que salía de la universidad.

¿Será una nueva era de escándalos universitarios?

Estamos en un momento interesante en la historia de la NCAA, con más incógnitas que respuestas por ahora, pero muy interesante. Ya sabemos que la NCAA va a permitir que los deportistas exploten sus derechos de imagen a partir de la temporada 2021-22, lo cual supone un cambio histórico en sí mismo, aunque la formulación concreta de las normas pueda limitar su alcance y acabar creando problemas distintos a los que pretende resolver. Y también sabemos que la NBA ha creado este programa para jugadores de instituto dentro de la estructura de la G-League, pero igualmente tampoco conocemos a día de hoy cuál va a ser el alcance del proyecto: si se convierte en una apuesta en firme con mucho más dinero y muchos más jugadores en el futuro, o es más bien una reacción a la marcha de algunas promesas a Australia este año último y también una manera de cubrirse las espaldas en caso de que el nuevo convenio colectivo no rebaje el límite de edad para jugar en la NBA.

Por ahora son 3 los jugadores que eligen pasar por el programa especial de la G-League en lugar de la NCAA aunque ya tenían acuerdos:

Jalen Green, Memphis,
Daishen Nix, UCLA,
Isaiah Todd, Michigan.

According to ESPN, Green and Todd won’t be joining a regular G League team as much as they’ll be involved in a year of intense basketball training alongside a group of elite prospects and a handful of veterans and play 10 to 12 exhibitions against regular G League teams as well as national teams from other countries.

In other words, this isn’t a regular G League experience with all the obvious drawbacks of putting an 18-year old onto a minor league team full of physically mature men who are trying to scratch and claw their way to an NBA contract. Instead, it sounds more like a European-style soccer academy where the focus is solely on developing them to be ready for the NBA. And for top players like Green, it will come with a significant amount of money attached.

San Diego State has signed forward Joshua Tomaić as a grad transfer from Maryland.

Coach Brian Dutcher said Tomaić will be eligible to play next season.

The 6-foot-10, 235-pound Tomaić can play multiple positions but is most comfortable at the stretch 4, preferring to play facing the basket, Dutcher said Monday.

Marquette forward Brendan Bailey is bypassing his final two seasons of eligibility to pursue a pro career.

Bailey had entered his name into consideration for the NBA draft in April but still had the option of returning to school. Bailey and Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski announced Friday that Bailey was indeed moving forward with his pro career.

"This has always been a dream of mine, and Marquette has helped prepare me to make this dream a reality," Bailey said in a statement issued by the university.

Florida point guard Andrew Nembhard plans to withdraw from the NBA draft and transfer, he confirmed Sunday.

Nembhard entered the draft and signed with an agent. There was always an expectation he would ultimately return to school, but his decision to transfer doesn't come as a complete surprise to Florida's coaches, sources told ESPN.

He took a similar approach after his freshman year and eventually returned to Florida after not getting invited to the NBA scouting combine.

Shaw will be in charge of helping develop players in the professional pathway program, headlined by five-star prospects Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd and Daishen Nix. The program was unveiled in April as an alternate pathway for prospects wanting to play professionally.

Under the structure of the new program, prospects will be placed on a team filled with veteran players and experienced coaches to provide mentorship. They will participate in training and exhibition games and will play around 10-12 games against existing G League teams.
